We will have a swimming Gala during the last week of term, Year 7 and 8 will be Tuesday 7th and Year 9,10 and 11 on Wednesday 8th.

Well done for your efforts with CIN theschool raised a whooping £776.00- Gwaith da!

We have made a good start to raising fundsfor operation Christmas Child, but we still need to ensure that we have atleast 2 boxes per TFL, although this is for charity it is still a housecompetition and if we succeed could result in our house being on top of theHouses Leader Board.

Operation Christmas Child is upon us again, the target of 10 Christmas boxes has been set for each house, so a minimum of 2 per TFL.

This is a chance to win House points and to gain Extra Mile Awards!

All you need is a shoe box, wrapped in Christmas paper which includes some the following items:-

Both have been selected to represent Torfaen County swim squad in next weeks Welsh Student Games at Cardiff's national pool.

All year 10 students have been allocated a certain amount of bus tokens each dependant on where they are going.

Whilst we are all sad to see our year 11 Taliesin students leave , this is an exciting time also as we welcome 43 students from year 8 into the Taliesin fold.
We take pride in our achievements in Taliesin House and it is worth taking the time to remind our new recruits about what it means to be a Taliesin student.
Taliesin students collated more merits every year than any other House since the introduction of the House system and are current holders of the Merit Cup.
Taliesin won the first two House Sports days, only narrowly missing out to Branwen last year , a situation we hope to rectifysoon.
Taliesin are also holders of the Christmas Quiz Cup and the 7 a-side rugby trophy.
Taliesin students, competitive or not, are achievers . 100% of the Taliesin leavers mentioned at the top of this blog are on target to gain 5 A*-C grades or better in their GCSE's. A remarkable achievement.

Taliesin House Chess Tournament

Congratulations to Jordan Fletcher whose name must now rank alongside that of Gary Kasparov, Bobby Fischer and Deep Blue for his achievements in winning the inaugural Taliesin Chess Tournament.
Mr. Evans confirms that Jordan is a hot favourite for the forthcoming school tournament, alongside gallant runner-up Karl Guerra.

Taliesin House Chess Tournament

Congratulations to Jordan Fletcher and Karl Guerra who, after facing off some intense competition during the qualifying rounds, have made it to this weeks' Grand Final. Well done also to those chess players, both new and experienced , who have helped make it such a worthwhile and interesting competition.
Mr. Evans, the tournament organiser , has complemented all entrants for their high level of skill and anticipates a keenly fought final this Friday lunch time in the Maths' wing.

Croeso yn ol and Happy New Year to all students and staff in Taliesin House. This term is definately going to be a busy one.
As well as successfully completing our current courses, students in years 9 and 10 will have the opportunity to select from an exciting array of pathways open to them from September.
Students in year 11 will be able to select from the widest range of courses we have ever been able to offer, due to our new ground- breaking collaboration with Duffryn, St. Joseph's and Bassaleg High Schools.

However , Advent is also a good time to think of those less fortunate than us and perhaps go out of our way to help them.
In Taliesin House , we will be looking at the plight of the Homeless and hopefully, raising awareness of their problems .

Sixth Form Question and Answer Session

A question and answer session has been scheduled for Thursday 2nd December at 4PM in the hall for parents and students in Year 11 who want to discuss the Sixth Form.

Inter-House Football Tournament

During the last week of Christmas term, Mr.Devney will be organising an inter-house football tournament.
The tournament for year 9 will take place on the Wednesday after school and for year 10 on the Thursday. I therefore need 8 willing Taliesin volunteers from each year group to uphold our proud sporting tradition.

Mock Exams

The Prom committee have identified Peterstone Lakes Golf Club as the ideal venue for this years prom. Peterstone Lakes is set in beautiful countryside between the Marshfield and St. Brides areas of Newport and it is hoped that it will inspire the best Prom to date.
Fund raising will begin in ernest with a non- uniform day later in the term.

Congratulations to Sophie Louise Johnson and Annie Bevan (both of Taliesin House) who have become an integral part of the regional u-15 team. The pair(pictured alongside senior assistant coach, Darren Edwards) have made an assured start to the season. Annie is described as a livewire scrum half who knows how to find the try line whilst Captain Sophie always leads from the front with her barnstorming runs at centre.

By now your Tutors for Learning should have talked through next years exciting option choices. You now have at least two weeks to look into each and every subject in depth and take an informed decision on what you will be studying next year.
As well as completing an interview with your TfL, you will be asked to select your options online following the Pathways evening on Thursday 11th February (Yrs 9 and 10 ).
