Well done Murrey!!!!

Dear All

The first British man to win in a grand slam since Fred Perry exactly 76-years ago to the day was described as "dazzling", "unbelievable" and a "truly great victory".

It brought plaudits from across the country – from sports stars, to political leaders, to his friends and family in his home town of Dunblane, Scotland.

The only person who appeared unmoved by the triumph was Murray himself who seemed more relieved than celebratory.

The 25-year-old won his first grand slam at his fifth attempt – – the same as his coach, Ivan Lendl – and the win makes him the first man to win Olympic singles gold and the US Open in the same year.

The mood of the country was captured by Prime Minister David Cameron who said it continued Britain's 2012 sporting feelgood factor.

"Delighted Andy Murray is continuing a golden summer of sport by winning the US Open," he wrote on the social media website Twitter.

"A truly great victory."
